Los Angeles (November 9,2011)--Double Ds (DD$) is a three-member art collective
that wildly constructs the language of L.A.’s transitional experience. DD$ started in 2005 when they arrived, then exploded onto the Los Angeles street art scene. Their work questions the emphasis of sex, drugs, fame and Hollywood idealism. They ask what it means to be iconic, fabulous, cool – most importantly, why being iconic, fabulous or cool even matters.

Each piece developed by DD$ is a three way collaboration. Often the artwork is passed from artist to artist over the course of hours, days or weeks, before it is finally considered finished. DD$ body of work utilizes symbols and vibrant colors highlighted by a bold use of lines combining precision and a free flow of style in order to organically develop characters. With a playful interpretation of a cheeky culture through satire and pop surrealism, the collective creates a means for society to humbly digest Los Angeles.

The trio of artists that is DD$ has been working, living, and creating this show in
Hollywood, California since early this summer. The body of artwork has been clearly influenced by the culture, street art, gang graffiti, and unrest that makes Los Angeles tick. Other significant influences include artists Rene Margit, Barry McGee, KAWS, and Jeff Koons, the creative minds of Walt Disney, Charles Shultz, and Bill Waterson, also, friends and contemporaries such as Gosha Levochkin and David Flores.

Most of DD$ first series of artworks has been lost, stolen, or, most likely -- sold fordrugs. This is their second series.
