Hold Up Art presents Fist Pump: The Collab Event, a collection of collaborations
between Los Angeles-based activist and street artist Homo Riot and some of the best
known street artists and photographers working in Los Angeles. Homo Riot, whose
provocative art has been a part of the city’s urban landscape since the 2008 passage of
Proposition 8, will mark the closing of his solo show by exhibiting for the first time these
powerful and creative collaborative “mash-ups”.

The Collab Event explores the relationship between Homo Riot and his fellow artists
and their individual creative takes on his imagery. These thought provoking and
engaging pieces show that issues of marriage equality, human rights and the rejection
of homophobia are deeply felt and understood by this impressive group of active and
prolific artists.

“I’m honored to have this group of artists participating in these collaborations. It says a
lot about the depth and acceptance of them as individuals and the LA Street Art
community as a whole,“ comments Homo Riot.

This exhibition at Hold Up Art marks the closing event of the month long solo show Fist
Pump and follows the Global Homo Riot, a subversive campaign that took place
during the month of September. The Global Homo Riot had the stated goals of
increasing the visibility of homosexual imagery and spurring conversation and
awareness about issues facing homosexuals around the world. As a result, this
campaign also served to engender pride and hope in young gays. More than two

hundred artists and individuals from around the world participated in the Global Homo
Riot. Cities that were represented include New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Los
Angeles, Las Vegas, Dallas, Atlanta, D.C. and Miami, as well as internationally in Paris,
London, Athens, Berlin, Mexico City, Sydney and Barcelona.

“Homo Riot elevates the street art game by combining his activism with his art,” says
Hold Up Art curator Brian Lee. “There are thousands of people in LA alone that are
pasting up posters, yet only a handful contain a message and meaning that is both self
promoting while at the same time being socially and politically aware and engaging.
Homo Riot’s work cannot be mistaken for another artist, and every one of his images
confronts the viewer in a modern day western stand-off; a direct social and aesthetic
conflict, and an open call to anyone who challenges."
